Different people have different opinion about modern types of resident garage doors but if you look in wider perspective then, you will know that there are mainly two types of resident garage doors and these being overhead and sectional doors. There are further types of overhead and sectional doors which are canopy, retractable, roller and many more but all of these types are originated from overhead and sectional doors. When you take overhead garage doors then, you will know that these doors are made on more classic looks and they resemble to the old manual doors in many aspects. They are made of one big wooden panel or any other material. This big panel forces them to open in a fashion that they need extra space to open and close.
There are further two types of overhead garage doors which are canopy and retractable. Canopy doors are made more compact in design but they open with a big swing inside the garage which requires extra ground space inside garage. You can install canopy overhead doors with both manual and automatic opening system. The other type of overhead doors which is retractable is more classic and these are mostly preferred with manual setting. They require extra space in front of the garage and you need to park your car at a distance from these doors. You can avail them in all materials but wood is most preferred.
Sectional doors are also found in two types which have resemblance in shapes but they are different in their opening and closing systems. One type is roller up garage doors which are made of small sectional blocks with a drum rolling mechanism to open and close. All of the sectional blocks roll around drum and reside straight in the ceiling of garage. Other types of such doors are with folding mechanism and all of their blocks fold upon each other. Both of these types are ideal for smaller garages because they do not need any extra space to open and close. In houses where people pay more attention towards the exterior attraction of the house, these doors are preferred because they are very stylish in their approach. They carry only on drawback that you cannot install window in these doors because it becomes difficult to divide window in sections.
Both of the above mentioned types have their own advantages and disadvantages but whichever type you choose, you should make sure that your resident garage door remains secure. You can install any advanced security system in these doors and especially with automatic doors there are endless opportunities to install advanced systems like thumb scanning, remote control and voice recognition. With these systems, your door becomes very secure and you do not need to worry about any intruders. If you are trying to install a window in your door then, make sure that it is installed in the upper edge of the resident garage door. This will make sure that no one from outside is able to peak into your garage and your garage remains secure.
